In the north of Jordan, 15km northwest of Ajloun.It is the birthplace of Prophet Elijah, who is mentioned in both the Quran and the Old Testament.

The Bible’s book of Kings mentions Elijah as “Elijah the Thishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead.”

The site has two churches, the smaller church dates back to the 4th and 5th centuries AD, while the large one dates from the 6th century and is considered one of the largest Byzantine churches in Jordan. The churches feature marble carvings and mosaic floors.
